Beyond the Bricks

The Beyond the Bricks Project:

In the summer of 2011, Media Make Change partnered with the Beyond the Bricks Project to create a comprehensive media literacy curriculum for the 2012 Community Producers Program (CPP). The program is designed for young Black males to explore and interrogate how they are represented through broad media culture, and creates safe spaces for the young men to produce and present their own stories as a way to respond to these explorations and inquiries. In early 2012, three pilot programs launched in New York City, Atlanta, Georgia, and Jackson, Mississippi, in collaboration with Columbia University, Georgia State University and Jackson State University, respectively. The four-month program will end with selected students moving on the The Fellows Institute program during the summer of 2012.
